The Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Consortium (ACIC) is part of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Value Partnerships program. The Value Partnerships is an innovative program that has significantly improved the quality of patient care throughout the state of Michigan with clinically oriented initiatives. The ACIC, started in 2007, is a group of 39 hospitals and imaging centers whose goal is to encourage appropriate and judicious use of CCTA services thereby improving the quality of care for patients.

Positive Results

Through best practice and efforts by participating members, ionizing radiation has been reduced by over 50%. Appropriate use has increased by over 30% and inappropriate use has decreased by more than 60%.

Patients: Less radiation for patients

Physicians: More appropriate use of CCTA

Hospitals: Greater Efficiency

News and Updates

  • ACIC Recognized at the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Scientific Sessions, March 9-12 in San Francisco, CA

  • The ACIC received ongoing recognition at this year’s ACC in San Francisco. The international conference attracted over 20,000 attendees with about 2100 presentations. The results from effort put forth by all of the ACIC participating members were acknowledged by CCTA experts in numerous presentations throughout the three day conference. Speakers noted the positive outcomes in the CQI initiatives involving radiation dose reduction and appropriate use. One session titled ‘CT Angiography in Clinical Use’ had a presentation “CT in Prime Time: Update on CT Clinical Trials and Registries” where ACIC was reviewed with other notable national registries. Also, in a session titled “A Year in Review: CCTA in 2012” one of the ACIC publications, Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography After Stress Testing Results From a Multicenter, Statewide Registry, ACIC (Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Consortium) was listed in the Top Ten Papers.
  • In addition, there were two presentations from the ACIC data, one of which received a “Best Poster” award:
    • Oral presentation: Coronary Artery Disease in Young Adults: Insights from the Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Consortium (ACIC)
    • Poster presentation: Diagnostic Yield of Triple Rule‐Out versus Coronary CT Angiography: Results from a Multicenter, Statewide Registry ‐ The Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Consortium (ACIC)
Everyone’s participation in the ACIC continues to be recognized at a national level- congratulations!
